Giving everyone the heads up. My next guest shall be the fabulous Marrus, she of the amazing art and stories, who lives in the house she and her partner, Jay, built from the ground up, who paints fantastic creatures that spring from daymares and nightdreams, who keeps turning those pictures in her head into a roof over it. For a sneak peek, check out her Web site, follow her on Facebook or Twitter, or do some required reading by picking up a copy of her book, Lightsurfing. But, I’ll let her tell you a little more about herself in her own words.

MARRUS
Three weeks after receiving my BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, I caught a one-way bus to New York City. Fleeing a successful career selling animation to the world’s top advertising agencies, I’ve since illustrated comics, painted book & album covers, and created artwork for various entertainment companies. I also do a spot of storyboarding for the movie industry.
After 9-11, I relocated to New Orleans, just in time for Hurricane Katrina. Opportunity lives where most fear to tread, so my husband & I bought a flooded house in the 9th Ward & put it back together ourselves.
Now, I paint visual metaphors for the human condition (it makes sense when you see the whole body of work), and enough people love my stuff that I make a full-time living with it. My mom’s just happy I don’t ask her for money anymore.
My book “Lightsurfing: Living Life in the Front of My Mouth“ is an illustrated, anecdotal, autobiographical journey of what it takes to carve your own path in the world.
My work lives over at www.MarrusArt.com, or you can keep up with new paintings (and a healthy dose of shenanigans) at my FaceBook Page, called, surprisingly enough, “Marrus”.
